Some traffic acts given below which have to be followed for driving in Philippines:

1. Republic Act No. 8750 which was entitled as “Seat Belts Use Act of 1999”: This law requires mandatory compliance of all the motorists’ either of private and public vehicles to use seat belt devices, and this law further require all vehicle manufacturers to install or put seat belt devices in all of their manufactured vehicles.

2. Republic Act No. 4136, known as the “Land Transportation and Traffic Code”: An act to compile the laws relative to land transportation and traffic rules, to create a land transportation commission and for other purposes.

The provisions of this law shall control and apply to the registration and operation of motor vehicles, including the licensing of owners, dealers, conductors, drivers, and similar matters.

3. Republic Act No. 2000 for “Limited Access Highway Facilities Act”: An act that is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety, and for the promotion of the general welfare. This law gives power to Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) to declare the North and South Luzon Expressways as Limited Access Highway Facilities. Whereby, banning motorcycles, tricycles, and bicycles roaming within the Expressway or these vehicles shall not be allowed in the Expressway at any time.

  1. Republic Act No. 8794 or the MV Users’ Charge Law popularly known as Road User’s Tax: An act imposing a Motor Vehicle User’s Charge on owners of all types of Motor Vehicles and other purposes. The proceeds of this law are for road and pedestrian safety.

There are following points which you have to take care while driving in Philippines:

Make sure you have a valid driver’s licenses in the Philippines:

If you plan to be in the Philippines for more than 90 days and plan to drive a vehicle, you will need a Philippine driver’s license (foreign licenses are acceptable for drivers staying here for shorter periods of time). The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issues all drivers’ licenses. Offices are located throughout the country.

The following are the requirements to acquire a Philippine driver’s license, provided you have a foreign license:

1. The original foreign license plus a photocopy.

2. If the information on the license is not written in English, a translation must be provided by the Embassy of the country where the license was issued.

3. If you need a professional license, or if the foreign license is expired at the time the application is filed, you will have to take both a written examination and a road test.

4. A completed application form.

The LTO will then give you a receipt that will serve as your temporary license for 60 days pending the issuance of the permanent license.

Obtaining an international driver’s license

International driver’s licenses are also available to Philippine driver’s license holders through the Philippine Motor Association in Quezon City or in Manila.

Speed limit
The maximum speed limit in cities and towns is 60 km/h and varies between 90 and 120 km/h on expressways and country roads. Police speed traps are a regular occurrence.

Park only where it is permitted
In major cities, parking areas will often have pole signage advising of parking restrictions. Please ensure you observe parking restrictions.

In Metro Manila, vehicle/s is subjected to the Unified Vehicle Volume Reduction Program, where each vehicle should be off the road one day per week.
